Whats the difference between 304 stainless steel rod and 304L satinless steel?

Both 304 stainless steel rod and 304L stainless has 18% Cr and 8% Ni, the difference is 304L is excellent in resisting the grain boundary corrosion after welding or after removing stress. About the carbon composition, 304L is lower so the price is higher.


304 Stainless Steel Rod Polishing Method

1.1 Mechanical Polishing

Mechanical polishing is polished by cutting, material surface plastic deformation removed by the polished convex part and get smooth surface polishing method, general use of oil stone, wool wheel, sandpaper and so on, to manual operation, special parts such as the surface of the body, can use turntable and other ancillary tools, surface quality requirements can be used super polishing method. Ultra-polished parabolic is a special abrasive, in the abrasive of the polishing fluid, tight pressure on the workpiece is machined surface, for high-speed rotation movement. By using this technique, the surface roughness of Ra0 008μm is the highest in various polishing methods. This method is often used in optical lens moulds.

1.2 Chemical Polishing

Chemical polishing is to allow the material in the chemical medium of the surface of the micro-convex part of the first dissolution, thereby obtaining a smooth surface. The main advantage of this method is that no complex equipment, can be polished shape complex workpiece, can be polished at the same time many workpieces, high efficiency. The core problem of chemical polishing is the preparation of polishing solution. The surface roughness obtained by chemical polishing is generally 10μm.

1.3 Electrolytic Polishing

The basic principle of electrolytic polishing is the same as that of chemical polishing, which is to make the surface smooth by selectively dissolving the material with tiny protruding parts. Compared with chemical polishing, the effect of cathodic reaction can be eliminated and the effect is better.

The electrochemical polishing process is divided into two steps:

(1) The macroscopic leveling dissolves the product to the electrolyte diffusion, the material surface geometry roughness drops, Ra > 1μm.

(2) Low-light-level anode polarization, surface brightness increased, Ra "1μm."

1.4 Ultrasonic Polishing

The workpiece is placed in the abrasive suspension and placed in an ultrasonic field, which relies on the oscillation of the ultrasonic wave to grind and polish the abrasive on the workpiece surface. Ultrasonic processing macro-force is small, will not cause workpiece deformation, but the production and installation of tooling is more difficult. Ultrasonic machining can be combined with chemical or electrochemical methods. On the basis of solution corrosion and electrolysis, the ultrasonic vibration stirring solution is applied, and the surface dissolution of the workpiece is separated, and the corrosion or electrolyte near the surface is even; the cavitation effect of ultrasonic in liquid can also restrain the corrosion process and facilitate the surface brightening.

1.5 Fluid Polishing

Fluid polishing is based on the high speed flowing liquid and the abrasive particles carried on the workpiece surface to achieve polishing. Common methods are: abrasive injection processing, liquid jet processing, hydrodynamic grinding and so on. Hydrodynamic grinding is driven by hydraulic, so that the liquid medium that carries the abrasive grains is reciprocating through the workpiece surface at high speed. The medium mainly uses the special compound (polymer substance) with good flow under the low pressure, and the abrasive material can be made with sic powder.

1.6 Magnetic Abrasive Polishing

Magnetic abrasive polishing is the use of magnetic abrasive in the magnetic field of the formation of abrasive brush, workpiece grinding. This method has high processing efficiency, good quality, easy control of processing conditions and good working conditions. With suitable abrasive, surface roughness can reach Ra0.1μm.

In the plastic mold processing said that polishing and other industries required surface polishing is very different, strictly speaking, the polishing of the mold should be called mirror processing. It not only has high requirements for polishing itself, but also has a high standard for surface smoothness, smoothness and geometrical accuracy. Surface polishing is generally only required to obtain a bright surface.

The standard of mirror processing is divided into four levels: AO=Ra0.008 μ m,A1=Ra0.016 μ m,A3=Ra0.032 μ m ,A4=Ra0.063 μ m , due to electrolytic polishing, fluid polishing and other methods difficult to accurately control the geometrical accuracy of parts, and chemical polishing, ultrasonic polishing, Magnetic abrasive polishing methods such as surface quality is not up to the requirements, so the mirror processing of precision molds are mainly mechanical polishing.
