Corrosion Resistance

Corrosion resistance is superior to 304 stainless steel, and has good corrosion resistance in pulp and paper production process. and 316 stainless steel is also resistant to the erosion of marine and erosive industrial atmospheres.


Heat Resistance

316 stainless steel has good oxidation resistance in 871°c (1600f°) following intermittent use and continuous use under 927c° (1700f°). In the range of 427°c-857°c (800°f-1575°f), it is best not to continuously use 316 stainless steel, but the temperature range outside of the continuous use of 316 stainless steel, the stainless steel with good heat resistance. 316L stainless steel resistance to carbide precipitation is better than 316 stainless steel, can be used above the temperature range.

316L Stainless steel carbon content is lower than 316 stainless steel (with L indicated ultra low carbon)

316 stainless steel has a slightly higher mechanical strength than 316L stainless steel.

Corrosion Performance

Under 500 degree, both of the corrosion performance is superior to $number (0CR18NI9) stainless steel, and there is no substantial difference between the two.If the temperature at more than 500 degrees, because 316 stainless steel carbon content is higher, high temperature more carbon molecules will be converted to graphite, and along the intergranular precipitation, resulting in a decrease in the adhesion between intergranular, thus producing intergranular corrosion tendency.


Welding Performance

316L stainless steel has good welding performance and can be welded by all standard welding methods. Welding can be used according to use, respectively, using 316Cb, 316L or 309Cb stainless steel filler rods or electrodes for welding. If you use 316L stainless steel, you may not need to weld back fire treatment. 316 stainless steel is used for high carbon content, welding conditions and welding technology requirements, its welding section should be welded after annealing treatment to obtain the best corrosion resistance.


Application Selection

316 stainless steel and 316L stainless steel can be substituted for each other if welding is not involved (for example, welding connection, repair welding required) or high temperature operating conditions (500 degrees).
