304 is a kind of common stainless steel, widely used in the manufacture of equipment and parts with good overall performance (corrosion resistance and moldability).

301 stainless steel showed obvious processing hardening during deformation, used for various occasions which require higher strength.

302 stainless steel is actually a variety of 304 stainless steel with higher carbon content. Higher strength can be achieved through cold rolling.

302B is a kind of stainless steel with high silicon content. It has superior high temperature oxidation resistance.

303 and 303Se are free cutting stainless steel respectively containing sulfur and selenium, applied in conditions requires free cutting and high surface finish. 303Se stainless steel can also be used in manufacturing parts need hot bearing, for in such conditions, the stainless steel has good hot workability.

304L is a variety of 304 stainless steel with lower carbon content used for conditions need welding. Low carbon content minimized the carbide precipitation in the heat affected zone near the soldering seam. And the precipitation of carbide may result in stainless steel intergranular corrosion in some environments (welding erosion).

304N is a kind of stainless steel containing nitrogen. The adding of nitrogen is for increasing the steel strength.


305 and 384 stainless steel has a high content of nickel. Its work hardening rate is low, suitable for various occasions which requires a lot on cold forming.

308 stainless steel is used to making welding rod.


The nickel, chromium content of 309, 310, 314 and 330 stainless steel is higher as to improve the high temperature oxidation resistance and creep strength. 309S and 310S are varieties of 309 and 310 stainless steel. The difference is that the varieties have lower carbon content as to minimize the carbide precipitation near the soldering seam. 330 stainless steel has particularly high anti carburizing capability and thermal shock resistance.


With the content of molybdenum, the pitting corrosion resistance of 316 and 317 is greatly superior to that of 304 stainless steel in sea and chemical industrial environment. The type 316 stainless steel includes low carbon stainless steel 316L, high strength stainless steel containing nitrogen.

316N and easy cutting stainless steel 316Fwith high sulfur content .

321, 347 and 348 are stainless steels respectively stabilized by titanium, niobium and tantalum, niobium; suitable for producing welding components in high temperature. 348 is a kind of stainless steel applicable to the nuclear power industry. But it has certain limitations on the content of tantalum and niobium.

The forging performance of 304L stainless steel is poor and its deformation is difficult.

Because of the existence of the hardening phenomenon, the deformation in the mandrel drawing process can not be too large. And the heat loss is a lot. So it must be formed in quenching. Coarse grain will be generated if high temperature insulation stage treatment is not good.
